Trend Magazine

When I went to ClubFest I had three clubs in mind. Two of them deals with my major, Trend and M.O.D.A., and the other one was Dance Marathon. But the one I am most involved in is Trend Magazine because it is the closest thing to a career path I want to do at the moment.

Trend Magazine is a student run organization with one adviser Ann Thye. It is run like a really fashion magazine with editors and directors. The magazine meets once a week at 7 pm in the Molecular Biology, Rm. 1414. Dues are $15 per semester or $20 for the whole year. Public Relations, Advertising, and Features are the three subcommittees. In Public Relations there is another three subcommittees: Event Planning, Fundraising and General. I am in the Event planning committee for Public Relations. The director I am under is Kristin Merchant and the assistant director is Danielle Powers. There are a total number of 11 committee member excluding the directors.

What the does the events planning committee do?? Well we plan any events that Trend puts on. The next upcoming event is “Fall into Fashion with Trend and Lyla’s.” It is a truck show that we are planning that allows that fashion conscious person (men or women) to see what the new up and coming trends are, how to wear them, and how to recreate make-up trends. For this event, along with any other event we plan, we have to get donations from clothing and shoes companies and it if we want to have any drinks or food at the event. So we have to contact many people and companies and plan way in advance to have everything all in order into pull of the event smoothly. Along with the truck show we also have to plan the release party and the Alumni party towards the end of the year and any events that the just the club gets to do.

I love it! Because I was to work in public relations that put on the fashion show and photo shoots. Plus when I start looking for an internship or a job it will look good on my resume and show my future employer that have some experience in the public relations field. Also I can tryout all the other committees throughout my college career to figure out what I want to do and may even become a director.

Joining a club of any kind is a good idea because it gets you involved. Also it shows your future employers that you are able to time manage, gain leadership skills, able to work in a group, and gain experience in your future career field. All in all joining a club or student organization helps you discover who you are as a person and getting to know other people around campus.
